Every once in a while I enjoy scanning the Internet Archive for sights and sounds that have been uploaded and made available to the public domain. This morning I was pleased to find video footage of two of my favorite Russian-born violinists, Milstein and Kogan, as well as the Caruso and Scotti recording of “Sollene in Quest’ora” from Verdi’s La forza del destino.
recent gems from the archive:
- Nathan Milstein - Allegro aperto from Concerto for Violin & Orchestra in A major (quicktime video)
- Leonid Kogan - El Paño Morno (quicktime video)
- Carl Flesch - Kreisler variaton of Dvořák’s Slavonic Dance no. 1 (mp3)
- Michael Rabin - Szigeti’s transcription of a Scriabin piano etude (mp3)
- Enrico Caruso and Antonio Scotti - Solenne In Quest’ora (mp3)
