Zukerman Masterclasses

During the autumn of 2003, Pinchas Zuckerman gave masterclasses and workshops in ten cities across the U.S. and Mexico. The classes were streamed live across the internet and made available to schools in three countries. The videos are archived by the National Arts Center of Canada on their ArtsAlive music resource website. There is also a video of Zuckerman leading a string trio masterclass in New York from Ottowa via videoconference as well as several videos of more traditional masterclasses given at the Royal Academy of Music and the University of Toronto.

Heifetz Masterclass with Friedman

I rarely link to YouTube videos because they often have the tendency to disappear, but I couldn’t resist sharing these two excerpts from a Heifetz masterclass featuring Erick Friedman. In the first, Friedman plays Paganini no. 17 and then runs through some scales. The second clip is of Heifetz and Friedman playing the Second Movement from the Bach Double Concerto.

An unknown Bach aria was recently discovered in a box of old papers.

Back from NYC

We took advantage of the long weekend and made a quick trip up to New York City. Four days is nowhere near enough time to really enjoy the city, but we did take in quite a bit. We saw da’ Bronx Bombers, the MOMA, the Met (we spent two days there), hung out in Central Park, walked around Brooklyn Heights, swung by Nero and Archie’s brownstone, saw the Kinkster’s loft, and of course, had some great food while we were there. Here are the photos.
