Sowden House

Located in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles, this interesting structure was designed by Lloyd Wright in 1926. The Sowden house was remodeled in 2002 and has been used as a shooting location for various television programs and films. I found some nice photos of the interior here.

Ennis House

The Ennis House was designed by Frank LLoyd Wright for the Ennis family in 1924. It is one of Wright’s most intriguing designs, based on Mayan motifs and constructed from cast Cemex blocks. The house is under restoration after being damaged by earthquake and heavy rain.

Volume Control Problems in Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10

The other night, without any prompting, my volume control suddenly wanted to adjust the microphone level instead of the speaker. Changing the device and track settings back to normal gave me no results. At this point, it was far easier and less frustrating to simply remove and reinstall the ALSA drivers.

In the terminal, I typed:
sudo apt-get --purge remove linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils

sudo apt-get install linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils

Then, because for some reason the above also removed GNOME desktop manager:
sudo apt-get install gdm ubuntu-desktop
